So tonight Jessica and I went to see Jenny Owen Youngs at the Southern, and it was awesome. In addition to being the sweetest person ever as we spent forever buying excessive amounts of merch (see trex sticker below) she also killed it on stage, and was incredibly endearing. If only she had played Hot in Here...

Happy V-Day
Hey all, so this year instead of making valentines for all of my friends, I sent out a request that we all create a playlist of our 23 favorite love songs and send out that playlist to each other. Some people are making physical copies of their mixes, but some are creating playlists in Grooveshark or using other ways to share their playlists across the web. I set the deadline for this Friday, and I've already had two friends share their playlists and they are fabulous. I am so excited to see what everyone puts on their lists! But for now, I will share with you all my playlist of 23 Love Songs, which you can listen to over here on Grooveshark. There are actually a few tracks missing here, since I couldn't find "Oh Yoko!" by John Lennon or "Benefits of Lying with Your Friends" by the Apples in Stereo on Grooveshark, but still I'm pretty pleased with it. Enjoy!

Somewhere between what you need and what you know
It's no secret I am a big Charlotte Gainsbourg fan. Her film career alone is something I gush over. Add in a concept album inspired by her time spent in an MRI machine and produced and partially written by Beck, and I'm sorry, but she can do no wrong.

This is a story and you're not in it.
The Frightened Rabbit show at the 930 club might not be until Nov. 1, but let me tell you, I just can't contain my excitement.
A short escape.
I spent the last weekend down in Bristol with one miss Ginny Harr, and we had a great time catching up, cruising on a lake, and listening to tunes at the Rhythm and Roots Reunion Festival. Many great times were had, and we bounced around from performers like the Felice Brothers, Ricky Skaggs, Shotgun Party, and a few others. Most of all, I loved getting to sneak a peek into her family's life and history. Gin, I'm so glad I have you.

When I left Charlottesville on Friday I was a total stress mess. A weekend spent down south relaxing really helped.

Live at Jittery Joe's
So I'm working on a mix cd for a friend, and of course this makes me go back through all my favorite music, so I wanted to share a great album from Jeff Mangum, Live at Jittery Joe's, recorded at a venue in Athens in 1997, and where some of my favorite songs can be found, like this cover of "I Love How you Love Me" and "Naomi" off of On Avery Island. The video is dark, but still. Isn't that cover awesome?

The Music Divides Us into Tribes
There has been SO much stuff going on in the last 2 months. Lost River Modern, Craft Fairs, best friends moving away. I'm sorry I've failed to document it all. There are many photos to come in the near future, and many many posts as we approach the fall and the changing seasons. The summer has just flown by.
But right now, I leave you with two songs from the new Arcade Fire album "The Suburbs" that I am just totally in love with (and you should be too). This album has such a great mix of nostalgia, sadness, excitement, and pop.

Your folks told me you should be left alone on a mountain top, knocking the aeroplanes down with stones
I'm in an Architecture in Helsinki mood again, whether due to their fun jams, their awesome cover art

Or their newest video for That Beep
Kellie Sutherland is so pretty.

Bow Wow Wow
I have been listening to nothing else these days but Bow Wow Wow's 1981 release "See Jungle! See Jungle! Go Join Your Gang, Yeah! City all over, Go Ape Crazy!" It's hard not to love an album with so many exclamations in the title.

You can go here for a quick listen to the title track. Not really design related, but i just HAD to share.
