Narwhals + Sian Keegan

So I've been meaning to post about the newest addition to my plush little creature collection. A few months ago, Jessica gifted me this adorable little plush narwhal (I have a bit of a narwhal obsession, by the way) by Sian Keegan. Look, he's smiling!!

Live at Jittery Joe's

So I'm working on a mix cd for a friend, and of course this makes me go back through all my favorite music, so I wanted to share a great album from Jeff Mangum, Live at Jittery Joe's, recorded at a venue in Athens in 1997, and where some of my favorite songs can be found, like this cover of "I Love How you Love Me" and "Naomi" off of On Avery Island. The video is dark, but still. Isn't that cover awesome?

I am Love

Rachel and I went to see I Am Love tonight at Vinegar Hill. I really liked it, not just because it had beautiful scenes, and not just because Tilda Swinton is a rock star, but because Rachel and I had so much to talk about after the fact. I'd recommend it, but go soon! It gets replaced by a new movie on Friday!

Starting the Archiving Process

So last thanksgiving my mom and I discovered a box at my grandmother's house full of photos and papers my great grandmother, Carrie, had saved. This women was intense about keeping things, and she even had the thank you card my dad sent her for his high school graduation gift in 1971! (This is my mom's family, but my mom and dad were dating back in high school. I love that she thought to keep the thank you card from her granddaughter's high school boyfriend.)

Anyways, the photos are great, but were just hanging out in a big box, so they have been damaged throughout the years, and I'm trying to scan them all in and do some digital touching up. I've already organized them in an album (that was my Christmas gift to my mom), but now comes the time consuming part. These need a ton of cleaning up and cropping, but here's a glimpse into the photographic awesomeness:

[My great grandmother, Carrie Jones, in 1924, age 14. It's tiny, but she has a adorable sparkly bird pin on her scarf.]

Golden Girls Treats for my Ladies' Brunch Crew

I may have just ordered these postcards for my ladies' brunch crew (Every few weeks 3 or 4 of us get together for some delicious brunch. Fancy hats are optional.) after seeing them featured in Bust Magazine this month! The Dorothy mirror is going to Ashley, of course.

The Music Divides Us into Tribes

There has been SO much stuff going on in the last 2 months. Lost River Modern, Craft Fairs, best friends moving away. I'm sorry I've failed to document it all. There are many photos to come in the near future, and many many posts as we approach the fall and the changing seasons. The summer has just flown by.

But right now, I leave you with two songs from the new Arcade Fire album "The Suburbs" that I am just totally in love with (and you should be too). This album has such a great mix of nostalgia, sadness, excitement, and pop.
