Shortcomings

So I know I said that I wouldn't be posting for a week or so, but I read Shortcomings by Adrian Tomine the other night, and I just needed to share how much I love his work. He is definitely a magnificent graphic novelist, and I need to get my hands on all of the Optic Nerve series. Really, really do.

I'm Off

I'm leaving tomorrow for LA so this will be that last post from me until my return to the east coast next Thursday. Hope you all have a great long weekend and a enjoyable 4th of July. It's hard to believe we're already that deep into summer! Autumn will be here before we know it. I definitely feel like I haven't climbed in the woods, rode a bike, or sat out late on my back porch with friends nearly enough for it to already be July. I think I've just made myself a mini list of things to do once I get back from sunny California.

Packing for Los Angeles

I'm heading off to go to LA on Wed and a friend of mine who I'll be seeing out there was telling me about cinespia, which is a series of summer film screenings in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
[found on cinespia]
So very cool. There's even a dj before and after the screening. The best part of it is that the film that's playing on July 4th is none other than Jaws. That's right. What's better on Independence day than the best summer shark movie.

Spend nothing weekend

With prepping to move to a new apartment, I'm pretty tight on money. I went to see Away We Go tonight, which was AMAZING! So much better than I expected it to be! Definitely worth the ticket price.

But for the rest of the weekend I will have to do things that don't cost anything, like maybe this
[found on we heart it]
or maybe even riding one of these a bit

A non-Michael Jackson Video

It's Friday, and I feel like sharing a music video. And while most blogs out there are streaming Thriller at time like this, I'm still feeling compelled to share this super darling video of "Small Planet" by Ferraby Lionheart. I first heard them when they opened for Noah and the Whale and now I'm hooked.

It's Friday - Movie Time

Happy weekend everyone. My weekend should be a good one, though I have piles of laundry and packing to do for my weeklong trip to Los Angeles next week to meet this little guy:

I'll also be working on a few little projects for some tote bags, going through my belongings to give away before move to my new apartment, and going to see this movie that I am quite excited for, probably just because i love Jim.

Something's not right here.

I have been feeling less and less compelled to post lately. There is something about the rhythm of this blog that has allowed me to get very un-personal. And while I don't plan on pouring out my deepest feelings to the internet, I do want there to be a certain element of my personality on here. That's what this is all about right? I plan to continue my regular regime, but I hope I can find a way to mix things up and make this more interesting for me, and for you out there that actually read this thing.

Lately, i've been sifting through old photos. I haven't had a decent working camera in close to two years. All my photos are old. I want to post new ones. But until then I'll be digging up bones and things from the past to interject into my interests and musings on the present. It's late. I'm rambling. Bedtime.

Nerdbots!

James sent me a link to Nerdbots today, as he is well aware of my deep love for all things robot-related. Nerdbots is a great little shop where adorable robots are made out of found objects and recycled parts. What a great way to reuse that kitchen timer!

Also, just because I feel like it's not right to talk about robots without mentioning this video by Andrew Thompson. Be sure you practice your finger pointing into the sky.

Craving some New Specs

I am really in the mood to get some new glasses, but at the moment can't afford to get new glasses. This means I'm preparing to spend the new few months searching for some new eyewear that calls to me until I have enough money. I love my current glasses, but wearing the same pair everyday for 3 years has gotten a little stale.

These Coach glasses have been my constant companions since 2006:

I found a link to Moscot in the "How I'd Wear It" post by For Me, For You on Camp Comfort and I am in love with these glasses. What I'm considering:

I Love Leanne Marshall

I think since the first time I heard that her clothing line was called Leanimal I was completely sold on Leanne Marshall. The 2008 ProjectRunway Champ continues to make impeccable clothing, snippets of which she shares on her blog. Take a peek at her Fall 2009 Collection here. Meanwhile, you can gaze longingly at her dressed in her etsy shop. So lovely:

Copenhagen Street Style

Let's consider this a follow up to the post I made two days ago, but Unruly Things recently posted a link to this amazing blog that just stops people on the streets of Copenhagen to ask them about their style. I love it.

HAY CPH (And We're back!)

After an insanely long last few weeks, I am finally ready to be back on top of things with this blog. My 60 hour work week forced me to neglect the internet a bit, but hopefully that is all behind me and I can devote a little more time to posting and designing. So...
[found on katieincopey]
I was poking around on the HAY CPH website (just one of the many reasons I love Copenhagen [see above image]) and I thought I would share a few of the awesome items they have for sale on their online shop. Copenhagen has such an amazing design scene, and I just cannot WAIT to go back for a visit.

Robot a Day

As any of you know who have ever taken a peek at my etsy shop, you know I kind of dig robots. These little guys made over at Robot a Day are simply hilarious. A new bot every day without fail, and always something new and creative.

Goonies and Wacky Cyndi Lauper

Last night we all went to see The Goonies at the Paramount as part of their Monday Night Movies series that will run all summer. I just uncovered the most insanely bizarre Cyndi Lauper video for "Goonies 'R' Good Enough" which was made for the movie. I had never seen it in full before. So wacky I had to share.

Ann Wood: Bird friends

Ann Wood is the creator of some incredibly adorable things, both big and very very small. All of her works are extremely detailed, such as her handmade sailboats and her sweet little bird friends featured here. Her shop is currently all sold out, much to my disappointment, but here are a few of my fave little bird friends that already found their way to good homes.
[1) Tipper, 2) Lars, 3) Lilly and Francis, and 4) Aurora]

Design*Sponge recently had a great sneak peek of Ann Wood's home, and featured a great DIY project by her for cardboard horses, so be sure to check those out as well.
