A sampling of recent hand drawn things

I've been trying to get used to drawing more, plus we were in desperate need of some wall decoration, so the following are some hand drawn illustrations that I slapped into frames and onto the wall.

Just the Two of us

Today is certainly the day of sneak peeks. Here's a first run of the "Just the Two of Us" note cards that I've been working on today.

*I was able to get some better lighting today, so I updated with a much better image.

Holiday Cards have arrived

Thanks to the assistance of Steph this weekend, lots of holiday cards are ready to go.

Here's a little sneak peek:

They will be up on etsy today or tomorrow.

Also...Alex Karpovsky, director of the film Woodpecker slept in our spare room last night. too bad I was sick and wearing silly pajama bottoms so I didn't socialize with him. He did however, leave behind a thank you beer on his pillow. How thoughtful...

Getting in the Holiday Spirit

The big Christmas tree was going up with lights and all today on the Downtown Mall, and the snowflake shaped light decorations were being hung off street lamps.

This of course has me excited and working to create a series of Holiday cards. And listening to Christmas tunes of course...(I like to get a really early jump on the holiday season!) And I'm already listening to the Sufjan Stevens Holiday albums.

Now, unrelated to anything holiday or winter-y, is an awesome piece by heather moore of skinny laMinx that I found through design*sponge (I'm currently obsessed with this blog, obviously).

Robot Luff

So I've been working on this the last few days, and while it is obviously inspired by another photo i found which was absolutely fantastic, I think it just overall demonstrates my love for all things robotic.

Things keep on changing

The blog continues to undergo cosmetic changes as I continue to build up a sort of branding for "a pocket novel". I spent all day today zooming through Design Sponge looking at designers' homes and studios and wishing my home was decorated as lovely as theirs. So tomorrow J and I are gonna head off to the SPCA rummage sale and try to did up some junk.

I really love the bust on Michelle Adams' bookcase:

Things from this summer

Here are a few of the hand drawn cards I made this summer. Most of them were pawned off on Kristin, and the Mansard Roof was of course from when I was crazy over making cards based on song lyrics. I would like to actually get that going, especially Me & Julio :)

So I guess if any one has any ideas for a song lyric that would make a really good literal transition into a card design, let me know.

"I see a Mansard Roof through the trees." - "Mansard Roof" by Vampire Weekend

"Over a Cowboy you drew a big talk balloon saying 'try not to take it so hard.'" - "Everything I try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn out Right" by the Decemberists

And of course, the graduation card:

My love of CLAW gets my picture in the paper. What, What.

Maybe one day I'll be a wrassler.

Josh Owen

It's been awhile since I've explored Josh Owen's website, and he has some new items up that are pretty cool. Josh Owen is a product designer in Philadelphia who specializes in sleek functional designs. Here's a shot of his triple threat seat, table, and tray:

I am a big fan of his work, and am always blown away by both the simple and innovative nature of all his designs.

My Sweet New Gig

Oh yeah, and by the way, I am quite pleased to announce that I am OFFICIALLY employed at O'Suzannah! I started work there last Sunday, much to my delight, and will be there most weekends. One thing I'm excited about is the thought of decorating our little abode with lots of prints from Ashley G and Drew. They are all over the store in one form or another and are really adorable. I really love this one, though we don't carry it in the store:

My life has certainly already been improved by this second job of mine.

First Annual Design Marathon

The first annual Design Marathon has an exhibit opening this Friday at the CCDC (Charlottesville Community Design Center). Myself and many others will display work that was done in teams on Oct. 10 from 10 am to 10 pm for non-profits around Charlottesville. My team worked to design a proposal for the Charlottesville Child Youth and Family Services' new playground.

I am quite excited to see everything all pinned up again, and so excited for my first real exhibition!

Greetings from R-mond

I'm posting from here in Richmond. I popped in today to hang and to see Of Montreal play tonight.

First off, while I may not be completely in love with the New Of Montreal, I must admit their video for "Id Engager" is pretty bizarre in a fantastic sort of way:

Finally, I have recently fallen for etsy seller orangemoontoys and their fantastic shadow puppets. If only I have thought of this when I still had a laser cutter easily at my disposal.
